Anhydrous Quercetin Powder and Quercetin dihydrate powder are both natural flavonoids extracted from Sophora japonica L., commonly known as the Japanese pagoda tree. While they share the same botanical source and are both tested using the same analytical methods-typically High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)-the key distinction between them lies in their water content.

 

The primary difference is in the loss on drying, which reflects the amount of water present in the product. Anhydrous Quercetin Powder, as the name suggests, contains minimal moisture. Its loss on drying is less than 4%, making it highly concentrated and more stable for formulations that require minimal water interference, such as certain pharmaceutical applications or anhydrous cosmetic products.

In contrast, Quercetin Dihydrate contains two molecules of water in its structure, which contributes to its higher moisture content. Its loss on drying typically falls between 9% and 12%. While this version is slightly less concentrated by weight, it remains a popular choice due to its natural crystalline form, ease of handling, and lower cost.
