Description

The main chemical component of Griffonia Seed Extract is 5-hydroxytryptophan, which is a natural amino acid extracted from the dried seeds of the mesquite plant Griffonia Simplicifolia. Its chemical name is 5-Hydroxy-3-indolyl-alpha-aminopropionic acid. Extraction Method

● Hydrothermal reflux extraction method: 

Take 5.00 g of Ghana seed powder and extract with 50 mL of distilled water at 80°C for 2 h, filter, collect the filtrate and dilute to 50 mL with water. 

● Alcohol heat reflux extraction method: 

Take 5.00 g of Ghana seed powder and extract with 50 mL of 50% ethanol solution at 80 ℃ Chemicalbook for 2 hours, filter, collect the filtrate, and make up to 50 mL with 50% ethanol solution. 

● Ultrasonic water extraction method: 

Take 5.00 g of Ghana seed powder, extract it with 50 mL of distilled water ultrasonically for 30 min, filter, collect the filtrate, and dilute to 50 mL with water.

Chemical composition

Ghana seed extract contains macromolecular substances such as polysaccharides, proteins and oils. The ultrafiltration membrane can selectively remove macromolecular impurities and retain small molecules of 5-hydroxytryptophan.

Ghana seeds are dried seeds of the mesquite plant Griffonia simplicifolia, native to West African countries such as Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and Togo. Ghana seed plants can generally grow to 2 to 3 meters high, with brown and smooth branches.

In secondary forest areas, some of them grow on tall trees. The flowering period is August to October, the flowers (hermaphrodite) are light green, and the results are from December to February of the following year. The fruit pod generally has 1 to 4 seeds, the mature seeds are oblong, about 1.5cm long, about 1cm wide, the seed coat is black, wrinkled, the endosperm is yellow-green, with a slight bean flavor. 

Since ancient times, folk medicine in West Africa has used the leaves of Ghana seeds to heal wounds. The leaves are boiled into juice, which is a good medicine for the treatment of urinary tract disorders and kidney diseases; Ghana seeds have the effects of treating pelvic congestion, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, etc. In addition to its antibiotic properties, it is also famous for improving human sexual function; the mashed bark can be used not only to make ointments for chancroid, etc., but also to produce preservatives.

Application and Function

● Antidepressant effect experiment 

To observe the utilization of TRP (tryptophan) in patients with depression, it was found that the utilization of L-TRP in patients with severe depression was significantly lower than that in patients with mild depression.

● Central analgesic effect 

TRP may play a central analgesic effect by increasing the content of serotonin (5-HT) in the central nervous system. After the descending fibers of 5-HTP in the brain reach the spinal cord, they can be mediated by interneurons to activate enkephalin neurons in the glial area of the posterior horn, which can inhibit the transmission of peripheral pain information to the secondary by means of presynaptic inhibition. neurons, thereby exerting a central analgesic effect.

● Cardiovascular system 

Griffonia Seed Extract effects on different hypertensive animal models in rats showed that TRP also has antihypertensive activity.

● Hypnotic effect 

It can generate 5-hydroxytryptamine, the precursor of neurohormone, in the body with the help of vitamin B6, thereby promoting sleep and mental stability.

● Physiological effects of anti-stress 

The study found that the injection of it can reduce the mutual attack and killing of mice in a short period of time, and the degree of reduction is proportional to the injection amount of 5-hydroxytryptophan.

● Effects on neuroendocrine activity 

It can be converted into some hormones to directly participate in endocrine activities, and can also be converted into the central neurotransmitter 5-hydroxytryptamine to indirectly affect the release of neurohormones.

● 5-hydroxytryptophan at a dose of 3～200 mg•kg-1 to suppress appetite can make rats anorexia which is positively correlated with the dose.
