Daidzein is a type of natural isoflavone compound found in soybeans and other leguminous crops. It, along with other isoflavones, is produced in plants through the secondary metabolic pathway of phenylpropanoid substances and serves as signaling carriers for defense responses against plant pathogen attacks. Daidzein regulates oxidative stress, angiogenesis, cell growth, and apoptosis. It possesses antioxidative, antiestrogenic, and antiatherogenic effects, potentially providing protection against osteoporosis.

Daidzein bulk powder (3.0, 5.0 mg·kg-1) demonstrated a significant preventive effect on chloroform-induced ventricular fibrillation in mice, while daidzein (0.8, 1.0 mg·kg-1) showed significant therapeutic effects on aconitine-induced arrhythmia in rats. Daidzein (0.2, 0.3 mg·kg-1) also exhibited resistance to adrenergic-induced arrhythmia in rabbits. Additionally, daidzein (0.03%, 0.05%) significantly reduced the amplitude of action potentials in isolated toad sciatic nerve. Furthermore, daidzein (0.8, 1.0 mg·kg-1) can prevent ventricular fibrillation induced by calcium chloride in rats and significantly reduce rat mortality.

 

The aforementioned effects were significantly dose-dependent according to Chemicalbook. Daidzein demonstrates a pronounced antiarrhythmic effect. Aconitine promotes the opening of fast sodium channels, accelerating Na+ influx and causing multi-source ectopic rhythm, which can be effectively counteracted by daidzein. This suggests that daidzein may have a significant inhibitory effect on Na+ influx in myocardial cell membranes.

 

Moreover, daidzein exhibits a procaine-like local anesthetic effect and demonstrates a similar ability to penetrate the sciatic nerve. The amplitude of action potentials in isolated toad sciatic nerve is primarily caused by Na+ influx, which is reduced by daidzein, further indicating its inhibitory effect on Na+ influx. Hence, the antiarrhythmic effect of daidzein may be related to the inhibition of Na+ or Ca2+ influx and anti-β-adrenoceptor activity.

A high dose (>500 mg/kg) of gormeneutin can promote its accumulation in rainbow trout muscle, thereby improving the fresh-keeping period of fish fillets during cold storage.

 

Pure daidzein bulk powder can enhance the activities of pepsin, intestinal protease, gastric amylase, and other digestive enzymes, as well as promote the development of intestinal mucosal villi in juvenile turbot. However, some studies have indicated that gordonisocyanin can inhibit the digestive function of Atlantic salmon, manifested by reduced maltase activity and increased trypsin activity.
