Titration Testing Method:

Titration is a common method used to determine the concentration of a substance in solution.  We will be titrating berberine hydrochloride powder sample to determine its concentration. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do this:

● Materials Needed:

- Berberine Hydrochloride Powder

- NaOH solution (sodium hydroxide)

- Phenolphthalein indicator

- Burette

- Erlenmeyer flask

- Distilled water

- Pipette

● Procedure:

1. Weigh out a known amount of bulk Berberine Hydrochloride Powder (e.g., 0.1 g) and dissolve it in a small amount of distilled water in an Erlenmeyer flask.

2. Add a few drops of phenolphthalein indicator to the solution. This will turn the solution pink.

3. Fill the burette with NaOH solution. Record the initial burette reading.

4. Slowly add the NaOH solution to the Erlenmeyer flask while stirring the solution. Keep adding the NaOH solution until the pink color of the indicator just disappears. This indicates the endpoint of the titration.

5. Record the final burette reading.

6. Repeat the titration three times to obtain an average volume of NaOH solution used.

7. Calculate the concentration using the following formula:

Concentration (mg/mL) = [(volume of NaOH solution used x normality of NaOH solution x 336.4) / weight taken]

Note: The molecular weight is 371.8 g/mol.

This method can provide an accurate determination of the concentration in solution, allowing for precise dosing and formulation of bulk Berberine Hydrochloride Powder drugs or supplements containing this compound.

Process Chart of Berberine HCL

● Raw Material Requirement (Comply with quality standard):

The process begins with plant raw material that must meet strict quality specifications. This ensures the Berberine Hydrochloride powder's safety, potency, and is free from contaminants like heavy metals or microbes.

● Initial Preparation (Picking):

The raw plant matter undergoes inspection and cleaning to remove non-medicinal parts (e.g., dirt, stems, foreign materials) and impurities, ensuring only the highest quality material proceeds.

● Size Reduction (Crushing):

The cleaned botanical material is mechanically crushed into uniform pieces of approximately 12mm. This increases the surface area, which is crucial for maximizing the efficiency of the chemical extraction in the next step.

● Alkaloid Liberation (Extraction):

The crushed material is mixed with lime water (calcium hydroxide solution) and sodium chloride. The alkaline lime water converts berberine into a soluble form, while the salt helps force the alkaloids out of the plant cells (salting-out), significantly improving extraction yield.

●Initial Isolation (Alkalizing Crystal & Filtering):

The mixture is processed to encourage the initial crystallization of the crude berberine alkaloids. These crystals are then separated from the leftover plant pulp and liquid through a filtration process.

● Purification Step (Dissolving):

The crude crystals are dissolved again in water, and the pH is carefully adjusted. This re-dissolution allows for further purification, as many impurities will not re-dissolve, leaving them behind.

● Salt Formation (Acidification Filtration):

Bulk Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) is added to the purified solution. This critical step causes the berberine to react with the acid to form the stable and bioavailable salt, Berberine Hydrochloride powder. The newly formed crystals are then collected via a second filtration.

● Moisture Removal (Drying):

The wet Berberine HCl crystals are dried at a controlled temperature of 75°C-80°C. This specific range effectively removes moisture without degrading the heat-sensitive compound.

● Final Product (Fine Powder):

The output of the drying process is a high-purity, potent fine Berberine Hydrochloride Powder. This Berberine HCL powder is the standard form used in pharmaceutical and supplement manufacturing.

The final Berberine Hydrochloride Powder is packaged in airtight, light-resistant containers to protect its stability, potency, and quality until it is used to manufacture end-user products like capsules or tablets.

FAQs:

1. What is Berberine Hydrochloride Powder?

Berberine Hydrochloride powder is a plant-derived alkaloid extracted from Golden Cypress raw material. It appears as a yellow crystalline fine powder and is widely used in food, supplement, and cosmetic formulations.

2. What specification do you offer?

We supply Berberine HCl with a purity range of 97%–98% (HPLC / titration verified basis, depending on batch requirements), suitable for industrial and pharmaceutical-grade applications.

3. What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ depends on the packaging type and the destination market. We generally support flexible bulk orders for distributors, manufacturers, and contract formulators.

4. How is Berberine Hydrochloride produced?

Berberine Hydrochloride powder is extracted from Golden Cypress plant material through a multi-step process involving:
crushing → alkaline extraction → crystallization → purification → acidification → drying → final powder formation. This ensures high purity and a stable crystalline structure.

5. Which testing method is most reliable for verifying Berberine Hydrochloride quality?
HPLC is the most widely accepted method for purity verification. However, titration testing can also be used for concentration validation. Reliable suppliers typically provide both analytical data in their COA.

6. Why does particle size (mesh) matter when selecting berberine powder?
Finer Berberine Hydrochloride powder (e.g., 100% pass 80 mesh) offers better solubility, mixing uniformity, and processing performance in tablets, capsules, and functional foods. Coarser particles may affect blend consistency.

7. How important is the raw material Berberine Hydrochloride source?
Very important. Berberine Hydrochloride powder is typically extracted from plants like Golden cypress or related botanical sources. High-quality Berberine Hydrochloride raw material reduces heavy metals and pesticide residues, and improves final product safety.

8. What certifications should a reliable Berberine Hydrochloride supplier have?
Look for ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, HALAL, and KOSHER certifications. These indicate compliance with international quality, safety, and manufacturing standards.
