Why Does Resveratrol Have Effect On Osteoporosis?

Apr 19, 2024

In recent years, studies have shown that bulk resveratrol powder may promote bone mineralization and prevent osteoporosis. Resveratrol may have some positive effects on osteoporosis. In recent years, some studies have shown that resveratrol can promote bone densification and prevent osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is most common in postmenopausal women and elderly men. Osteoporosis is categorized into two main types: primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is further divided into postmenopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis and idiopathic osteoporosis. Postmenopausal osteoporosis usually occurs within 5-10 years after menopause. Senile osteoporosis usually occurs after the age of 70. Idiopathic osteoporosis, on the other hand, occurs mainly in adolescents, and the cause of the disease is still unclear.

Pain, spinal deformity and fragility fractures are the most typical clinical manifestations of osteoporosis. Decreased respiratory function can also be seen. However, many osteoporosis patients often have no obvious symptoms in the early stage. Osteoporosis is often found only after the fracture occurs by X-ray or bone density examination. Once a fracture occurs in an osteoporosis patient, the quality of life decreases. This can lead to various complications and even disability or death. Therefore, early prevention and treatment of osteoporosis is important.

Why Does Resveratrol Have Effect On Osteoporosis?

Resveratrol bulk powder has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This may help reduce the risk of osteoporosis. It is thought to inhibit bone loss and promote the growth and regeneration of bone cells.

Research suggests that resveratrol may also work by activating bone forming cells, inhibiting bone resorbing cells, and regulating bone cell metabolism. This positively impacts bone health.

Scientific Research Support

In animal experiments and in vitro studies, bulk resveratrol powder has shown potential benefits. Especially for the maintenance of bone density and improvement of bone health.

However, more clinical studies are needed to confirm this association. and the exact role of resveratrol in the treatment of osteoporosis.

In 2006, Yan Wang from Lanzhou University concluded in her paper "Effects of resveratrol on the expression of osteoprotegerin and its ligands in the femur of de-ovulated rats". First, resveratrol can improve the bone density and biomechanical properties of lumbar vertebrae and femur in de-ovulated rats, and has the effect of preventing osteoporosis. Second, resveratrol increased the expression of osteoprotegerin and decreased the expression of its ligand in the femur of ovariectomized rats, and inhibited bone resorption. This may be one of the mechanisms by which resveratrol prevents osteoporosis.

In 2007, Pei Lingpeng et al. from the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM) published a study on the effect of trans-resveratrol on D-galactose-induced osteoporosis in old rats.

Conclusions from the study. Long-term high intake of D-galactose leads to aging in rats with possible complications of osteoporosis. And trans-resveratrol can delay the occurrence of such senile osteoporosis.

In the same year, Pei Lingpeng concluded in "The effect of trans-resveratrol on osteoblast differentiation". Trans-resveratrol can inhibit the differentiation of osteoclasts cultured in vitro.

In 2008, Yan Wang et al. from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University concluded in "Effects of bulk resveratrol powder on the expression of osteoprotegerin and NF-kB receptor activator ligand in the femur of de-ovulated rats". Resveratrol up-regulates the expression of femoral osteoprotegerin (OPG) in bone tissue in vivo. Down-regulates the expression of NF-kB receptor activator ligand. This may be its mechanism of action in improving bone density and biomechanical properties of femur.

Researchers from Denmark set out to study resveratrol. to explore whether it could help male patients with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is associated with low-grade inflammation. This can cause osteoporosis of the bone. Metabolic syndrome is a complex group of metabolic disorders. It can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

MD from Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark showed that "for the first time it has been revealed that resveratrol can potentially be used as an anti-osteoporosis drug in humans". The compound stimulates osteoblasts in the body."

In 66 middle-aged men with metabolic syndrome, the researchers evaluated bone salt density and markers of bone formation and resorption using a randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled trial. Over a 16-week period, each patient was randomized to a 500 mg dose of resveratrol, a 75 mg dose of resveratrol, or a placebo, given twice a day. It was found that patients who consumed the high-dose resveratrol had a 2.6% increase in lumbar spine volumetric BMD compared to the placebo group. The bone formation marker bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) was also elevated by 16% in the high-dose resveratrol group compared to the control.

The results showed that bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) serves as a marker of osteogenic activity. Its level increased in a dose-dependent manner with resveratrol. The BAP level in the high-dose group increased by 16% compared to the placebo control group (P<0.001). And the lumbar vertebral trabecular bone density (vBMDtrab) increased by 2.6% in the high-dose group compared to the control group (P=0.043). This suggests a positive correlation between BAP levels and lumbar trabecular bone density.

No changes in hip BMD were observed, the researchers reported. "We observed significant improvements in vertebral BMD and elevated levels of the bone formation marker BAP just after 4 months of treatment with high-dose bulk resveratrol powder," said Dr. "These results are encouraging. Further studies are also needed to assess whether these bone-protective effects of resveratrol are equally effective during long-term treatment of patients at risk for osteoporosis."
